Education without Teaching =
Design & Nurture Serendipity in the Learning Environment

「コミュニティの拠点となる学校」に向けて、ひとづくりを標榜し、富岡町立小中学校を舞台に2018年から「Professionals in School (プロフェッショナル転校生)」を実施してきたPinSプロジェクト。アーティスト、建築家、音楽家などクリエイティブな職種のその道のプロが「転校生」に扮し、教育現場で子供たちと生活を共にしながら世代を超えた共育・学び合いの環境づくりを行っています。

そして2020年からはさらなる実践として「“今”の富岡町の魅力」や「富岡町の変化」を伝えることや、人と人との関わり合いを生かした関係・交流人口の向上を目的としたプログラム(in Society) が動き出しました。

PinSプロジェクトでは、こうした「学校 (in School)」と「社会 (in Society)」という2つのSの側面から「教えない教育=偶然性が生まれる環境」を目指す共育の仕組みをPinSモデルと定義し、これからもその実践を重ねていきます。ここから培われる関わり合いの「点（Pin）」を増やし、ネットワーク化されながら町全体が変わっていくことで、社会・地域コミュニティとの連携を図っていきます。

Professionals in School Project, we call PinS Project has been carried out in Tomioka Town elementary and junior high schools since 2018, advocating human resource development for "schools that serve as community hubs. In this project, professionals in creative fields such as artists, architects, and musicians play the role of "transfer students" and share school life with children in an educational setting, aiming to create an environment for mutual learning that transcends generations.

And starting in 2020, a new programmatic approach involving society has been undertaken with the intention of unveiling and conveying the "charm of Tomioka Town now" and the "changes in Tomioka Town," as well as to increase the number of people who interact with each other.

We implement the project from the aspect of the two "S's", "in School" and "in Society," with an attempt to develop a PinS model. “Oshienai Kyoiku,” which literally translates as “education without teaching” is an overall key term for the PinS Project, and we imply and define it as designing and nurturing serendipity in the learning environment.  We are committed to practicing and creating this model as closely collaborating with the school and the local community.

We hope to identify and learn from these "points (Pins)" of interaction and serendipity fostered by each environment and to continue to build ideas for the Tomioka’s original approach to engage and nurture its town.

Pinning in the Town: What It Is and What It Represents?

①「Professionals in School」の頭文字。

PinS is an acronym for "Professionals in School.”

②　Google Mapsの普及により、地点登録をすることを「ピンを立てる」という表現が一般化し、複数のピンを立てることで独自の地図をつくれるようになった。また Pin downという英語表現には、「意図を持って決める」「事実をはっきりさせる」などの意味があることから、富岡町を拠点とし、さまざまな場所を巡るためのツアーや作品を設置するなど、PinSプロジェクトが起こしたいアクション（行動）と名前（メタファー）が一致している。

With the widespread use of Google Maps, the expression "placing a pin" to register a location has become common, and it is now possible to create your own map by placing pins on to multiple locations. In addition, the English expression "to pin down" means "to decide with intention" or "to clarify a fact.” The name (as a metaphor) matches the approach (action) the PinS project wants to take.

③　建築家・都市計画家であるジャイメ・レルネル氏が提唱した「都市の鍼治療（Urban acupuncture）」という考え方がある。PinSプロジェクトではこれを応用し、鍼灸師が身体の局所に針をさすことで体全体の流れやバランスがリセットされるように、都市を一つの生態系と捉えた時、計画的に一つ一つの小さな活動を起こすことで都市・町（富岡町）のエネルギーの流れが変わるという考えのもと「コミュニティの拠点となる学校」の構想を行なっている。

The PinS project is also based on the concept of "urban acupuncture" proposed by Jaime Lerner, an architect and urban planner. We believe the idea that the flow of energy in the city and town (Tomioka Town) can change by taking small and measured steps just as an acupuncture therapist places a pin on various places of the human body in order to reset the flow or balance in the body.
