福島市を活動拠点とするデザイナーの小池は「校内のサードプレイス」をテーマに、校内3箇所に児童生徒や、大人が自由に使える「場」を作りました。一つ目は、学校の入口付近にある階段下にある空間につくった「階段下のへや」。帰りのバスを待つ児童が本を読んだり宿題をしたりできるような場を作りました。二つ目は、ギャラリーセット。以前映画の舞台美術の仕事に携わっていた彼女の経験を活かし移動可能なギャラリーを校舎二階につくりました。三つ目は「渡り廊下のカウンター」。最初に訪れた際、景色が見えて美しい通路だなと思った彼女の印象から外を眺め、一人の時間を過ごせるカウンターを作りました。児童生徒らからはすでに「居酒屋」という愛称で親しまれているそうです。 滞在を通して、小池は「富岡ではまだ入れない場所もあり、町なかを子どもだけで歩き回ったりは難しくお店もまだ少ない状況ということを知り、より多くの場所を体験をできるように学校の中でより道するように立ちよれる新しい場を作った」と述べています。誰かが使うことによって初めて成立する作品は、今日も児童生徒の大切な居場所になっています。

Koike, a designer based in Fukushima City, created three places within the school for students and adults to freely use based on the theme of a “third place in school”. The first is the “room (heya) under the stairs," a space under the stairs near the school entrance. The place was created as one where children, waiting for the bus to arrive, can read books or do homework. The second is a gallery set. The second is a set of galleries. A movable gallery on the second floor of the school building was created by taking advantage of her previous experience as a stage designer for movies. The third is the “passageway counter”. When she first visited the school, she thought it was a beautiful passageway where you could see the view outside, so a counter was created where you can spend some time alone. The children and students have already nicknamed it "izakaya (bar)”. Through her stay in Tomioka, Koike says, "I learned that there are still some places in Tomioka that you can’t enter, and that it’s difficult for kids to walk around the town alone, and that there aren’t many stores yet. So, I created new places in the school where kids can drop by and experience more places.” The works of art, whose purpose is competed when someone uses them, continue to be an important place of belonging for students as of today.

プロフィール / Biography

福島市生れ。短大にて空間デザイン、大学にて立体造形を学ぶ。映画の美術装飾・小道具に11年間携わり「Alweys3丁目の夕日64ʼ」「きいろいゾウ」など数々の作品に参加。2011年に「プロジェクトFUKUSHIMA!」の「福島大風呂敷」に参加し、2014年福島市に帰郷後は「igoku fes」(いわきアリオス)や「古関裕而まちなか青春館」(福島市)、「夜見市」(福島市)など福島県内で開催される多数のイベントのデザインや会場美術に携わっている。

Born in Fukushima City. Studied spatial design at junior college and three-dimensional art at university. He has been involved in art decoration and props for movies for 11 years, and participated in many films such as "Alweys 3-chome no Yuhi 64ʼ" and "Kiroiroi Zou". 2011 he participated in "Project FUKUSHIMA! After returning to Fukushima City in 2014, he has been involved in the design and venue art for many events held in Fukushima Prefecture, including "igoku fes" (Iwaki Alios), "Furuseki Yuuzeki Machinaka Seishunkan" (Fukushima City), and "Yomiichi" (Fukushima City).
